About the Business
Blackberry Lane Pre-school began life in 1978, and moved to its current purpose-built site at Cowes Primary School in 1990. A maximum number of 50 children can attend at any one time, and there are approximately 120 children enrolled. With 13 staff members who work directly with the children, the pre-school has a high adult to child ratio. We have a key-person system whereby each member of staff has a group of children for whom she/he is particularly responsible. We are proud that most of our staff members have been with us for many years.
We believe that the children and the pre-school as a whole benefit greatly from our staff's professionalism and experience. All 3-year-olds are now eligible for government-funded grants. Their fees are paid for up to 15 hours per week, for 38 weeks per year, to be used over a minimum of 3 days. This takes effect from the beginning of the term after their third birthday. Any additional hours are charged at normal pre-school rate.
